Ghana
Red, gold and green with a black star.
History and symbolism
Designed by the artist Theodosia Okoh and raised at independence in 1957, it was the second African flag after that of Ethiopia to use red, gold and green. The black star honors African freedom and recalls the Black Star Line of Marcus Garvey. A white-banded variant flew from 1964 until 1966.
